The Lusitania

On May 7, 1915, the British ocean liner RMS Lusitania, rival of the Titanic, was torpedoed by a German U-boat and sunk. Of the 1,959 people on board, 1,198 died, including 128 Americans. The sinking of the Lusitania enraged Americans (even though they had been warned) and hastened the United States' entrance into World War I.

4) Was anyone on board both Titanic and Lusitania when they sank?

  1. ONE - Evacuate if needed, call for mayday
    - Listen for evacuation siren
    - Put on the survival PFD
    - Follow directions from the person in charge/cooperate
    - Don't panic or let yourself get out of control
TWO - Someone warned the captain not to go around/near the area, to zigzag to confuse the enemy, but the captain didn't take the advice and the Lusitania got hit on the side with an exploding torpedo.
THREE- third-class passengers 35 or older who didn't travel with children. They were old enough and deep enough on the boat to be suspected to die first. On the Titantic, kids age 16 and younger were likelier to die than they were on the Lusitania.
FOUR- Yes, but the deck crew was most likely to survive. Stowaways and deported seamen were most likely to die.
